The Human-omics of Sea Island Company

I wish I could measure the human-omic impact of Sea Island Company on the Glynn County community ... that would be a
combination of human and economic value. To be sure, no other company has contributed so much.

Creating commerce that employs others is perhaps the highest form of philanthropy known to man. Not only does Sea Island
Company help put groceries on the table for some 1500 local citizens and their families, but they do it in ways that inspire.
How else do you retain employees who provide excellence for 25, 35, or even 50 years the way Sea Island does.

A quick search of "Sea Island" in the Glynn County property records brings up 293 parcels ... I'd venture more than any other
single property owner. And none of these parcels gets a homestead exemption. When Sea Island creates higher real estate
values through product excellence, it results in more taxes for Glynn County ... always. It's safe to say that Sea Island
Company contributes far more to our local property tax digest than any other person or company.

This benefits every single citizen in the form of better police and fire protection, better drainage, better roads, the court
system, the school system, and all the other governmental functions that help glue our community together. We are all much
better off as a result of Sea Island Company.

But they are more than the goose that lays the golden egg. They have made innumerable land donations to local churches,
schools, and community organizations, not to mention the Land Trust. Many local charities would have difficulty surviving
    without their generous assistance.

Have you ever wondered why the major intersections on St. Simons Island have always been so immaculate? It's because Sea
Island Company helped design and maintain them at its own expense. Why? To enhance the community. And in their eyes,
what's good for the community is good for Sea Island Company. Unfortunately, the recent collapse in the real estate market
has forced them to cut back on many expenses, the free maintenance program among them.

Sea Island Company consistently earned 5-star ratings for their facilities and guest services. They brought the eyes of the
world upon us during the G-8 Summit in 2004. And we will soon host our first ever PGA Tour Event in October 2010. What a
marvelous tribute to the quality of this organization that they are chosen to host such grand events. Their commitment to
quality rubs off on everyone they come in contact with.

The impact of Sea Island's purchasing from local companies reverberates through our local economy. Many small Glynn
County companies would not survive without them.

In these turbulent economic times, we sometimes hear it said: "That company is too big to fail." Well, I don't believe anything
is too big to fail. But some things are too GOOD to fail, and Sea Island Company is one of those things.
